Radial access – why has it taken so long?

In the May 2016 issue of Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology the discussion centered around what the impediments to increasing the percentage of radial access procedures were and what the benefits are.
First the benefits
The article quotes Dr. Sunil Rao…
“In a cost-conscious environment, institutions are looking for ways to create value,” Rao explained. “Remember, value is healthcare outcomes per dollar spent, and I think in that equation, radial access is very attractive and we are seeing a lot more impetus to adopt radial right now.”
Radial access is only about 27% in the US. However, in Europe that share is upwards toward 80%. Why?
The impediments identified in the article are lack of training and institutional support. With the Angioexpand, we believe both of those impediments can be addressed. The Angioexpand can be used in femoral, radial or jugular access procedures. The simplicity of the system should convince even the most single-minded clinician that there is a better way.
Once the institution sees that they can reduce the number of microintroducers they inventory by half or more, the support will follow.
The Angioexpand is a patented, 510(k) cleared microintroducer that is available for license or other arrangements. Contact [email protected] or 877-522-4982 for more information.

Current Modified Seldinger Technique

First, here is a video of the conventional cannulation method
Conventional cannulation method

Even though it is effective, it is slow, requires too many steps and is very clinician dependent. In the video, threading the dialator onto the wire is as difficult as trying to thread a needle. Effective, but not elegant.

The AngioExpand simplifies the entire process with an easy to use, easily manufactured, patented product. If you haven’t already, please register on the website and view the AngioExpand video.

We are offering AngioExpand to interested parties for license or other offers. For more information, please email [email protected] or call 877-522-4982
